The Lost Poem

The other day, in an attempt to buckle down and work on my short stories, I pulled an old notebook out of the closet to use for some outlines. The front page of the notebook contained lyrics for a song I had written about 3 years ago. I’m not sure if it is very good as poetry isn’t something I’ve spent a lot of time practicing; but if it is okay with you,  I’d like to share it with you now.

She was a powerful storm
with a bright burning flame
destroying everything in her path.
And as you faded from view,
I called after you,
but you left me hiding my tears with a mask.

Can’t you see how much it hurts
just watching you turn away
and can’t you see how much I’d give
for it to be any other way?

You say you’ve moved on
you say you don’t need me
you’ve got it all figured out;
But one day you’ll see
all the bridges you’ve burned
and you’ll wish that I was still around.

But with your back turned
you couldn’t see the single tear that fell
I want to make amends, call you my friend again,
but would you hear me if I yelled?

Can’t you see how much it hurts
just watching you turn away
and can’t you see how much I’d give
for it to be any other way?
