Everyday Ramblings

Spreading a little kindness

One of the things I’ve been working on in my life is to try to be kinder; both to myself and to others. I recently set a goal of trying to say or do something nice to/for someone else every day.

Yesterday I invited my friend Mary on a picnic lunch. It had been a minute since we had spent time together (and if I’m honest, I wasn’t 100% coherent last time she saw me since it was right after my surgery), and I have this picnic basket that has been sitting in my closet not getting any love–it seemed like a win-win opportunity.

It turned out to be a perfect day for a picnic! I made two kinds of sandwiches, and I packed jello, potato chips, and bottles of water. The weather was overcast but warm, and the view was gorgeous. It was a little windy, but that’s okay because nearly everyone carries around a little paperweight in their pocket nowadays anyway.

The picnic also gave me an opportunity to be mindful, which is another task I’ve been working on. I was able to sit and enjoy the food, the breeze and the smell of the water; and I was able to just… be.

What a perfect way to end the week.

  1. I think this is a beautiful sentiment. It’s warming to know that people actively seek to do kindnesses in their day-to-day. Thank you for sharing this experience as it gave me something to smile about and reminded me that yes, work can be stressful, but there are beautiful people in this world.
